All is flux. Yield to magic.
Spells for Uncertain Times embraces the notion that all is flux, that life is inherently challenging. It acknowledges our human desire for assurances and constants, even though our future relies on transformational change. This ongoing work symbolically explores the tension between these two polarities in reductive, minimal black and white compositions that render magic from the mundane, that turn the quotidian surreal. Taking inspiration from the 1940s avant-garde films by Maya Deren, wherein the casual is transformed into a profound subconscious experience and physical space and time become dreamlike, they are my attempt to distill the confusion of uncertain times, as if making elements for a spell.
